In November last year, the ministry set the project's direction through an internal idea contest, followed by a discussion involving all employees in January of this year. In March, recommendations from 100 travel journalists, writers, regional tourism experts, and inbound tourism specialists were gathered to finalize travel themes and candidate attractions.
This vote will unveil 100 travel themes under eight major categories: experience-based content, gastronomy, nature and ecology, lifestyle, K-content, culture, arts and tradition, architecture, and travel preferences. The themes include "100 Gukbap & Hangover Soup Spots," "100 Barefoot Walking Trails," "100 Best Fishing Spots," "100 Pet-Friendly Destinations," "100 K-Dessert Tours for Halmaenials," and "100 Best Places to Zone Out."
Some themes also target inbound tourism demand, with candidates like "100 K-pop Pilgrimage Sites," "100 K-Scene Spots from the Screen," and "100 Vintage Havens," blending K-content with themed travel preferences.
Voting is available on the "Korea Travel Guide" website and the "Travel Month" website. Participants can choose their preferred theme and vote for candidate attractions within each theme. There is no limit to the number of votes, and individuals are free to participate across multiple themes and attractions.
Participants in the vote will be entered into a draw to win prizes such as portable televisions, dining vouchers worth 300,000 won, and online Onnuri gift certificates. The more votes cast, the higher the chance of winning a prize.
For certain themes, the public can directly recommend attractions. By submitting a recommended location and the reason for the recommendation, participants can receive a prize if their suggestion is selected as a final attraction. To encourage voting, the Ministry is also running the "Travel Month Summer Mini Campaign." Those who certify their participation on social media after voting will be entered into a draw for convenience store mobile gift certificates.
After the voting ends, the 10,000 selected attractions will be released through the "Korea Travel Guide" website. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization plan to encourage visits to the chosen sites by hosting theme-based stamp collection events, offering collectible souvenirs, and conducting promotional campaigns in collaboration with influencers for each theme.
