With this agreement, GC Green Cross Wellbeing has secured the domestic development and sales rights for the fat-dissolving injectable currently being developed by Raziel. The company plans to secure new growth engines as it expands its obesity treatment distribution business alongside its existing non-reimbursed pharmaceuticals and aesthetics business.
Raziel’s candidate is an injectable being developed to target reduction of fat in specific body areas. Unlike existing fat-dissolving injectables, which have mainly been used for facial areas such as submental fat, this product aims to be applied to various areas including the abdomen, flanks, and upper arms.
Raziel confirmed the efficacy and safety of its candidate in reducing submental and flank fat during Phase 2 clinical trials in the U.S., and is currently pursuing entry into Phase 3 clinical trials within the year after discussions with the FDA regarding the trial design.
Recently, as the GLP-1 class obesity treatment market has grown, demand has also increased for body contouring following weight loss. The company expects that this candidate could target the local body contouring market, which GLP-1 treatments have difficulty addressing directly.
Along with this agreement, GC Green Cross Wellbeing also made a strategic investment in Raziel. The company explained that this investment goes beyond simply securing domestic distribution rights, and is aimed at exploring future global business collaboration opportunities.
Raziel is currently conducting Phase 3 clinical trials in China for regulatory approval, and is targeting entry into FDA Phase 3 trials and a NASDAQ listing as its main objectives.
