On June 26, KEPCO signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with OpenAI at Seoul National University for cooperation on AI transformation in the energy sector.
This agreement was established to accelerate the digital transformation of the energy industry by combining KEPCO's power system operation technology and electricity big data with OpenAI's generative AI technology.
Going forward, both parties plan to promote policy and technology exchanges to jointly utilize and expand the adoption of AI technology in the energy sector. They will also collaborate on innovating power services through generative AI and discovering new business models.
Notably, this agreement is significant in that it marks the first time a domestic energy public enterprise has established a direct collaborative framework with OpenAI. KEPCO expects this partnership to establish itself as a leader in setting global standards for energy AI, while also contributing to the government’s strategy to become one of the world's top three AI powerhouses.
KEPCO plans to integrate its vast electricity data with the latest AI technologies to drive AI-based innovation across all areas, including power supply, facility operations, and infrastructure management. Through this, KEPCO aims to enhance power services that can be directly felt by citizens and expand these achievements to overseas operations, thereby strengthening its global market competitiveness.
