The Yangju Great Transformation Citizens' Sovereignty Transition Committee, which is planning the 9th popularly elected administration of Yangju, visited the construction site of the Dobongsan-Okgjeong section of Subway Line 7, a long-awaited project for local residents, only to be met with an unsettling update. It was revealed that the opening, previously expected in 2027, is now projected to be delayed by about two years, with operations likely to begin in 2029.

At the site, an official from the Gyeonggi Province Railway, Port, and Logistics Department stated, "While civil engineering work for tunnels and stations can be completed by the end of 2027, considering the subsequent rail, electrical, and system installation, as well as the time required for train test runs, the actual opening is expected to be in 2029."
Currently, the overall progress for this section stands at approximately 60%. Concrete pouring and station structural work are underway following the tunnel breakthrough, but subsequent processes requiring sophisticated technology have caused delays. Industry experts point out that even after civil engineering is completed, it takes at least a year to establish the railway systems, making the 2027 opening virtually impossible from the start.
The Transition Committee immediately expressed regret. A committee official remarked, "Yangju citizens have endured inconvenience with the hope that they would be able to use the subway by the end of 2027," adding, "A two-year postponement of the opening disregards citizens' basic right to transportation," and issued strong criticism.

However, the supply of trains is not expected to pose a major obstacle. Even if the production of new trains is delayed, Gyeonggi Province explained that it would be possible to operate existing Line 7 trains directly from Dobongsan Station as soon as the tracks are completed, enabling immediate operations.
