Eximbank to Support Shipbuilding and Defense SMEs in Obtaining U.S. Cybersecurity Certification
70% of CMMC Certification Costs Covered
Building Cooperative Frameworks with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean
The Export-Import Bank of Korea announced on June 28 that it is launching a consulting support program in partnership with major domestic shipbuilders to help small and medium-sized partner companies obtain the U.S. Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC).
CMMC is a cybersecurity certification system that evaluates whether companies performing contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense have the capability to securely protect Federal Contract Information (FCI) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
The Export-Import Bank of Korea will cover 70% of the costs required for small and medium-sized partners to obtain CMMC certification, while major shipbuilders will share their expertise on the certification process.
This support comes in response to the expanding participation of domestic shipbuilding and defense companies in the U.S. shipbuilding and naval vessel sectors. The number of cases where small and medium-sized partner companies involved in the U.S. defense supply chain are required to meet CMMC security standards when handling sensitive information during contract execution is also increasing.
The Export-Import Bank of Korea plans to expand its existing "Coexistence Package Consulting" model, previously operated for partners within large enterprise supply chains, to the defense sector. The bank is currently in discussions to establish cooperative frameworks with major shipbuilders such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean, and will begin full-scale support after finalizing detailed operational plans.
