Police Seek Arrest Warrant for Man in His 70s Over Weapon Attack at Ilmin Museum in Gwanghwamun
The Jongno Police Station in Seoul applied for an arrest warrant on June 27 for a man in his 70s, referred to as Mr. A, on charges of attempted murder and preparation for arson after he wielded a weapon against an acquaintance at the Ilmin Museum of Art in the Dong-A Ilbo building in Gwanghwamun.
Mr. A is accused of stabbing his acquaintance, a man in his 40s identified as Mr. B, with a sickle at the Ilmin Museum of Art at around 7:47 a.m. the previous day, causing injuries. During the investigation following his emergency arrest, police additionally confirmed that Mr. A had prepared for arson prior to the crime and included this charge as well.
After committing the crime, Mr. A fled by taxi, passing through Samgakji in Yongsan-gu and Noryangjin in Dongjak-gu, but was apprehended by police later that afternoon at the residence of an acquaintance in Gwanak-gu.
Prior to the incident, both individuals are believed to have worked in the vicinity of the building. Mr. A was responsible for cleaning work, while Mr. B is reported to have recently submitted his resignation.
