321 Dead, 1,203 Infected, Tracing Rate at 55%... Ebola Crisis Escalates in DRC
The spread of the Ebola virus continues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
According to major foreign news outlets on June 27 (local time), the government of the DRC announced in a statement the previous day that the number of confirmed Ebola cases had reached 1,203. This is an increase of 200 cases compared to 1,003 cases reported on June 21. The cumulative death toll rose by about 70 during the same period, reaching 321.
In neighboring Uganda, 20 people have been confirmed to be infected so far, with 2 deaths reported among them. France has also reported its first confirmed case.

Authorities in the DRC are working to prevent further spread, but the rate of contact tracing for infected individuals remains at around 55%. The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), under the African Union (AU), estimated the tracing rate to be about 12%, showing a discrepancy from the official figure.
