SpaceX Acquires Optical Communication Startup as U.S. Regulators Grant Swift Approval
Acquisition of Mesh Optical, Developer of Optical Transceivers
SpaceX, the aerospace company led by Elon Musk, is set to acquire Mesh Optical Technologies, a startup specializing in optical communication technology.
According to major foreign media outlets including Bloomberg on June 26 (local time), the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has approved SpaceX's acquisition of Mesh Optical, following an expedited review process, as it determined that the acquisition does not pose significant concerns regarding competition restriction.
Mesh Optical was founded by engineers who previously worked on the development of Starlink's laser link communication technology at SpaceX. The company develops optical transceivers that use light to transmit and receive information between data centers. The technology developed by Mesh Optical is known to offer higher power efficiency and lower latency compared to existing solutions.
