Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Headquarters Conducts Comprehensive Drill Including First Aid for Contaminated Casualties
Launch and Operation of the Wolseong Unit 4 Radiological Emergency Response Team
Focusing on Emergency Maintenance and First Aid Training
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Headquarters (headed by Kwon Wontak) conducted a comprehensive radiological emergency drill for Wolseong Unit 4 on June 25 to prepare for potential nuclear power plant accidents.
During the drill, the director of the Emergency Preparedness and Environment Division at the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission and his team observed the simulated control panel and on-site activities at Wolseong Unit 4. The head of the headquarters personally explained the drill status, thereby demonstrating the ability of the heavy water reactor nuclear power plant to respond to radiological emergencies.
This drill was the first in the organization to pilot the Radiological Emergency Drill Evaluation Guidelines established by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety under the National Radiological Emergency Preparedness Plan, while maintaining strict scenario confidentiality in advance.
The drill evaluation was conducted using newly developed assessment forms, and all emergency personnel for Wolseong Unit 4 participated to verify the operational capabilities of mobile emergency response equipment such as power generator vehicles and pump vehicles in response to the simulated accident.
The training was focused on emergency maintenance during radiological emergencies and first aid for contaminated and injured personnel.
