Doongha Lee (Literature), Daejin Kim (Music), and Dohun Kim (Theater) Win National Academy of Arts Award
The National Academy of Arts of Korea announced on the 26th that novelist Doongha Lee, pianist Daejin Kim, and theater director Dohun Kim have been selected as the recipients of the 71st National Academy of Arts Award.
The Academy explained that this decision was made at the 77th regular general assembly held on the 25th.
Established in 1954 under the National Academy of Arts Act, the National Academy of Arts of Korea is an institution that recognizes and supports artists who have made outstanding contributions to artistic creation.

View original imageThe National Academy of Arts Award, which has been presented annually since 1955, is given to artists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the arts through outstanding creative activities in fields such as literature, fine arts, music, theater, film, and dance. The prize amount is 50 million won. Since 2022, the Academy has also been presenting the Young Artist Award, which carries a prize of 25 million won, to artists aged 45 or younger (40 or younger in the field of music) in order to encourage creative ambition among young artists and to discover the next generation of talent.
The recipients of the 5th Young Artist Award are: novelist Choi Eun-young in the field of literature; artist Kim Minae in fine arts; composer Kim Shin and daegeum player Yoo Kyungeun in music; director Kim Sujeong in theater; director Yoon Ga-eun in film; and dancer Hong Kyunghwa in dance.
Both the National Academy of Arts Award and the Young Artist Award are selected through preliminary and final reviews, after nominations from over 230 culture and arts-related organizations and university presidents nationwide, with the final decision made at the general assembly. The award ceremony will be held on September 7.
Additionally, the National Academy of Arts of Korea announced that it has selected seven new members in five fields: literature, fine arts, music, theater, and film.
The new members are: novelist Lee Seung-woo; Ha Jonghyun, honorary professor at Hongik University College of Fine Arts and painter; Won Munja, honorary professor at Ewha Womans University and painter; Song Suryeon, honorary professor at Chung-Ang University and painter; Lim Jaewon, honorary professor at Seoul National University and daegeum player; theater critic Yoo Min-young; and film director Bae Chang-ho.
New members are selected from artists with more than 30 years of experience in their fields, based on nominations from over 230 culture and arts-related organizations and university presidents nationwide, across literature, fine arts, music, theater, film, and dance.
