DP Criticizes PPP's Attack on 'Samsung-SK hynix Honam Investment Rumors' as Fueling Regional Conflict
"Turning Corporate Investment Decisions into Political Strife"
The Democratic Party of Korea has pushed back against the People Power Party, accusing them of fueling regional conflict over rumors of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix investing in a semiconductor cluster in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province.
Ando Geol, Deputy Floor Leader, criticized the People Power Party at a policy coordination meeting at the National Assembly on the 25th, stating, "The People Power Party is turning even voluntary and preemptive investment decisions made for the future of companies into political strife, focusing on baseless criticism and stoking regional conflict." He also emphasized that these investments are the result of economic judgment, not political considerations.
Chief Spokesperson Kang Junhyeon also joined in the criticism. In a written briefing, Kang said, "It is questionable whether the People Power Party's inferiority complex has turned into ignorance and delusion," and stressed, "The vision of establishing a semiconductor cluster outside the Seoul metropolitan area is an ambitious plan to break away from the single-centered structure of the capital region."
Meanwhile, Democratic Party lawmakers from the Honam region are actively working to attract investment. Park Ji-won, the lawmaker representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Province, highlighted his constituency on Facebook, saying, "The optimal choice for a nation strong in AI and semiconductors is none other than Haenam in South Jeolla."

Similarly, Assemblyman Kim Eui-gyeom, who represents Gunsan, Gimje, and Buan-gap in North Jeolla Province, argued on Facebook, "To prevent the side effects of 'concentrating everything in Yongin' from turning into 'concentrating everything in Gwangju,' it is necessary to distribute the investments across regions."
