In response to the increasing adoption of electric vehicles, a joint government disaster prevention drill was conducted to prepare for potential battery fire incidents in airport parking lots.
Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 25th that it had conducted the "2026 Daegu Airport Electric Vehicle Fire Response Drill" at Daegu International Airport, in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Air Force, the fire department, the police department, and other related agencies.
This drill was organized to proactively address the risk of electric vehicle fires within the airport area. More than 70 officials from the corporation and related agencies participated, checking the inter-agency cooperation system in the event of a disaster. The focus was on minimizing human and material damage through rapid initial response and restoring airport operations as quickly as possible.
The drill began by simulating an electric vehicle fire in the ground parking lot of Daegu Airport’s international terminal. The corporation connected its central control center at the Seoul Gangseo-gu headquarters with the Daegu site through a real-time video system to test its command and control capabilities. Each stage of the response was carried out as in a real situation: situation dissemination and reporting, activation of the crisis management organization, fire suppression and passenger evacuation, and restoration of damaged facilities.
To strengthen disaster prevention capabilities, external experts were also invited. Lee Jaewoong, a professor in the Department of Defense Industry Systems at Kyungil University and an expert in disaster safety, participated to evaluate the overall drill process and provide tailored on-site advice.

Kim Bokgeun, Head of Safety and Security at Korea Airports Corporation, said, "The corporation will continue to conduct realistic drills such as fire evacuation drills at 14 airports nationwide, including Daegu, Gimpo, and Gimhae, in order to further strengthen disaster management systems in the aviation sector."
