ShinlaJen Successfully Registers Domestic Patent for 'SJ-640'... Establishes IP Barrier
ShinlaJen announced on June 24 that it has successfully registered a domestic patent for 'SJ-640', the follow-up pipeline in its next-generation oncolytic virus platform 'SJ-600' series. Like the SJ-600 series patents registered in Korea and Japan last year, the SJ-640 patent is a proprietary asset developed independently by researchers at the ShinlaJen Research Center without any external technology introduction.
SJ-640, which has achieved successful patent registration, is a technology that simultaneously expresses two types of complement regulatory proteins, 'CD55' and 'CD59', on the surface of a virus. Conventional oncolytic virus therapies have faced the limitation of being rapidly destroyed by attacks from the complement system, a part of the body’s immune system, when administered intravenously. In response, ShinlaJen established an intravenous administration system for oncolytic viruses by expressing the 'CD55' protein on the virus surface through the SJ-600 platform. SJ-640 is designed to express the 'CD59' protein simultaneously, thereby further enhancing immune evasion capabilities.
The simultaneous expression of CD55 and CD59 proteins allows for more effective defense against complement attacks, maximizes the survival rate of the virus, and significantly improves the efficiency of tumor tissue targeting. As a result, it can more powerfully eliminate deep-seated tumors and metastatic cancer cells located in remote areas of the body.
Based on this technological edge, ShinlaJen plans to strategically diversify the patent portfolio of the SJ-600 series. In particular, the addition of this new patent for simultaneous expression of CD55 and CD59 to the existing platform patents has significantly expanded the scope of rights over the core technology. Through this, the company aims to block competitors’ development of similar technologies and solidify its exclusive position in this technological domain.
