Celebrating its 68th edition this year, the Seoul International Book Fair is the largest book festival in Korea, where major domestic publishers and readers come together in one place. The support targets a total of 131 publishers: 70 with individual booths, 44 with collective booths, and 17 participating in the "Book Village" section.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Publishing and Culture Industry Promotion Agency launched this support program to reduce the burden on publishers participating in the book fair and to strengthen on-site programs. Participating publishers will receive support for operating author lectures, book talks, and signing events, as well as for booth equipment rental and both online and offline promotional expenses.
This year, on-site events featuring each publisher's representative authors have been expanded. Moonji Publishing will hold a lecture titled "A Guide Called Fear" in conjunction with the "Exhibition of Light." Willbook will host a book talk with Buddhist monk Jeonggwan, titled "Monk Jeonggwan, My Food." Ajac will present a science fiction book talk, "The Origin Story of Species," with author Kim Boyoung. Gaji Publishing will showcase a lecture by authors Noh Eunju and Lim Hyeongnam, titled "K of Architecture."
Booth events linked to official programs of the Seoul International Book Fair will also be supported. These include a book talk titled "Night and Books: Exploring Films" by Geulhangari, selected for the new release program "Summer, First Book," and a giveaway event by Wonderbox, selected for the "Rediscovered Books: What a Waste, This Book," featuring "Rediscovering Korean Mythology."
Equipment rental support tailored to each publisher's plans will also be provided. Dotgwa Dat will operate a booth combining music and books with sound equipment, and Seosawon will create a space-type booth through an author’s studio experience event.
