Gwangju University Holds Celebration for Alumni Elected in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections
A Total of 53 Alumni Elected,
Demonstrating the Capabilities and Influence of Gwangju University Alumni
On June 23, Gwangju University and the Gwangju University Alumni Association announced that they held the "9th Nationwide Local Election Alumni Elected Officials Celebration" to congratulate alumni who were elected as new leaders of the local community.

The event, held the previous day in the 3rd floor convention hall of Holiday Inn Gwangju, was attended by over 30 elected alumni, President Kim Dongjin, university executives, Democratic Party National Assembly member Jung Jinwook (representing Dongnam-gap, Gwangju), as well as more than 100 people including current and former executives of the Alumni Association.
In the 9th Nationwide Local Elections held on June 3, a total of 72 Gwangju University alumni ran as candidates. Of these, 53 were elected, including 5 heads of local governments, 11 metropolitan council members, and 37 basic council members. This is seen as further evidence of the capabilities and influence of Gwangju University alumni, who are active throughout the local community.
The event began with a celebratory performance, followed by introductions of attendees, a university promotional video, a welcome speech from the alumni association president, congratulatory remarks from the university president, presentation of commemorative plaques to the elected alumni, a group photo, remarks from a representative of the elected alumni, and a dinner.
In his welcome speech, Kim Donggi, President of the Alumni Association, stated, "The more than 50 alumni elected officials are the pride of the Gwangju University community, dedicated to the development of the local community and the happiness of its residents," adding, "I hope this gathering further strengthens cooperation and solidarity among alumni, and becomes the starting point for a new network for regional development."
President Kim Dongjin also said in his congratulatory remarks, "I am truly proud of all the elected alumni who have realized the value of challenges and dreams that began at Gwangju University, and who have grown into leaders of the region," adding, "As dedicated contributors to the community, I sincerely hope you will create a new model for local autonomy in Korea."
National Assembly member Jung Jinwook remarked, "Gwangju University grew into a prestigious institution producing many politicians today, starting with its founder Dr. Kim In-gon, who left a significant mark on the history of Korean democracy through the DJP Alliance. I sincerely wish you continued success and happiness in your legislative work."
