The national basic zone is an administrative district unit that subdivides the national territory more finely than eup, myeon, and dong, taking into account geographical features such as roads, railways, rivers, and residents' living areas. The national basic zone number is used as a postal code and serves as fundamental data for various public services, including fire, police, statistics, and education.
This revision was implemented in response to discrepancies between the previous national basic zone boundaries and the actual living areas of residents. The city focused on establishing a more systematic spatial information management framework by reflecting living areas and road systems transformed through urban development.
The purpose of this revision was to address the gap between the existing basic zone boundaries and actual resident living areas, and to establish a systematic spatial information management framework aligned with newly formed road systems resulting from urban development. Through this adjustment, a total of 18 basic zones were changed and 8 zones were abolished, reorganizing Gwangmyeong City's national basic zones from 155 to 147.
Specifically, Cheolsan Jugong Complexes 8 and 9 and Complexes 10 and 11 were each consolidated from two basic zones into one. In Gwangmyeong Districts 1, 2, 4, and 5R, the existing 15 basic zones were adjusted to 10, and in District 16R, the number of zones was merged and reduced from four to three. In District 15R, the boundaries of three existing basic zones were realigned to reflect the changed complex boundaries and road systems. With the changes to the national basic zone numbers, postal codes in some areas have also been updated.
The city has posted the relevant information on the public notice board of the city hall website so that citizens can easily check the changes. For more detailed information, residents can contact the Civil Affairs and Land Division of Gwangmyeong City.
Mayor Park Seungwon stated, "As the city's appearance changes, administrative services must also adapt accordingly," adding, "We will strengthen efficient administrative services that residents can tangibly experience, based on accurate spatial information."
