Proteina Signs Analytical Service Agreement with U.S. Multinational Pharma for Protein-Protein Interaction Biomarkers
Proteina has signed an analytical service agreement with a U.S. multinational pharmaceutical company to utilize protein-protein interaction biomarkers.
According to Proteina on June 22, this agreement marks the company’s first global commercial achievement based on the research support contract and network established with the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), the largest Parkinson’s disease research foundation in the United States, in November last year. Industry observers note that close collaboration with MJFF, which has significant influence in the field of neurodegenerative disease research, served as a bridgehead for Proteina’s technology to be adopted by a multinational pharmaceutical company.
The biomarker developed by Proteina is capable of selectively and precisely measuring only trace amounts of activated innate immune protein complexes present in various samples. Unlike conventional protein quantification methods, this approach analyzes the functional process in which proteins actually bind and generate signals, thus overcoming the limitations of existing technologies.
The U.S. pharmaceutical company, which is the counterpart in this agreement, plans to introduce Proteina’s PPI biomarker in the non-clinical phase of its investigational new drug candidate for brain diseases. The aim is to verify in a non-clinical setting whether neuroinflammation levels actually decrease after drug administration, providing clear evidence for the efficacy of the drug and utilizing these findings in the design of subsequent clinical trials. Through this approach, the company intends to pre-validate the efficacy of the candidate in the non-clinical stage, thereby enhancing the efficiency of follow-up clinical studies.

A representative from Proteina stated, “As most neurodegenerative diseases share neuroinflammation as a common pathology, our platform could be utilized as a universal biomarker for conditions including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease in the long term,” adding, “We also anticipate the potential for expansion as a companion diagnostic (CDx) tool in the future.”
