Protinah Signs Protein-Protein Interaction Biomarker Analysis Agreement with U.S. Multinational Pharmaceutical Company
Validation of Precision Measurement Technology for Innate Immune Protein-Protein Interactions
Protinah, a company specializing in AI-driven drug discovery based on protein-protein interaction (PPI) big data, announced on June 22 that it has signed an analysis service agreement with a U.S.-based multinational pharmaceutical company, referred to as Company C, which is currently developing treatments for degenerative brain diseases. The agreement focuses on utilizing protein-protein interaction biomarkers.
This agreement represents Protinah's first global commercial achievement based on the research support contract and network it established with the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), the largest Parkinson's disease research foundation in the United States, in November of last year. Industry analysts note that close collaboration with MJFF, a major player in degenerative brain disease research, served as a bridgehead for Protinah's technology to be adopted by multinational pharmaceutical companies.
Innate immune complexes are key protein complexes that result from PPI and trigger excessive immune responses, leading to neuroinflammation in the brain. Recently, global big pharma companies have been actively developing therapeutics targeting these complexes. However, progress has been hampered by a lack of biomarkers capable of demonstrating whether drugs actually suppress patients’ inflammatory pathways.
Therapeutics targeting the innate immune system are under development not only for degenerative brain diseases, but also for a wide range of conditions caused by excessive immune responses and chronic inflammation, including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.
Protinah's proprietary biomarker has succeeded in selectively and precisely quantifying trace amounts of activated innate immune protein complexes present in various samples. Unlike conventional protein concentration measurement methods, this technology analyzes the actual functional processes of protein binding and signal generation, thereby overcoming the limitations of existing technologies.
The U.S. Company C, the counterparty in this agreement, plans to introduce Protinah's PPI biomarker during the preclinical phase of its investigational brain disease drug candidate. The company will use the biomarker to verify, in a preclinical environment, whether neuroinflammation levels are truly reduced after drug administration, providing clear evidence of drug efficacy to inform subsequent clinical trial design. By validating the candidate’s efficacy in the preclinical stage, the company aims to enhance the efficiency of later clinical trials.
An official from Protinah stated, "Since neuroinflammation is a common pathology in most degenerative brain diseases, our platform has the potential to serve as a universal biomarker for conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease in the long term. We also anticipate the possibility of expanding into a companion diagnostic (CDx) tool in the future."

The official added, "Building on our joint research with MJFF and now this agreement with a global big pharma company, we expect to see more analysis service contracts and collaboration opportunities with developers of innate immune-targeted drugs in the global market going forward."
