Gyeonggi Province's Climate Action Opportunity Income App Surpasses 2 Million Users in Two Years
Gyeonggi Province announced on June 22, 2026, that its mobile app, "Climate Action Opportunity Income," which was launched in July 2024, has surpassed 2 million subscribers in just two years since its release.
The "Climate Action Opportunity Income" is Gyeonggi Province's carbon neutrality platform, designed to encourage residents to participate in daily practices that address the climate crisis by rewarding such actions. The objective is to connect activities that anyone can engage in during their daily lives with measurable carbon reduction outcomes, and to spread voluntary participation among residents into a sustainable culture of carbon neutrality.
The cumulative greenhouse gas reduction achieved through the Climate Action Opportunity Income app by 2 million users amounts to approximately 630,000 tons—equivalent to planting about 5 million trees. According to the province, this achievement is the result of residents voluntarily engaging in climate actions in their everyday lives, such as using public transportation, walking, riding bicycles, visiting cafes that offer discounts for tumblers, and participating in "plogging" activities.
In celebration of reaching 2 million subscribers, Gyeonggi Province is also hosting an online event where residents can share congratulatory messages and their experiences participating in the policy. Two hundred participants will be selected to receive convenience store gift certificates. The event is accessible through the Climate Action Opportunity Income app. The province plans to use the feedback and impressions collected from residents during the event to inform future program operations and policy improvements.
