This event was organized as an opportunity for youth who do not yet have the right to vote to directly select the leader who will shape the future of their region and to officially deliver the results. It drew attention as an event that highlighted the importance of youth political participation and democratic citizenship education.
According to the results of the mock election, Lee secured 57.3% of the votes and was selected as the Jeonbuk governor-elect. This was the second-highest rate among the youth mock elections for governors in 17 metropolitan regions nationwide, following Wi Seongon, the governor-elect of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, who received 62.0%.
The youth mock elections are conducted in a manner similar to actual elections and are held nationwide to give young people experience in comparing and reviewing policies and candidates. In particular, as discussions on expanding youth suffrage have recently progressed, these programs have established themselves as educational initiatives that increase political interest among future voters.
Lee Wontak stated, "The support you have shown signifies hope for change in Jeonbuk and a call for the future," adding, "I will make every effort to ensure that the voices of youth are meaningfully reflected in policy and provincial governance."
