Nam Jaeheon, Head of Arctic Route Promotion Headquarters, Appointed Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries
"The Right Person to Support Korea’s Rise as a Maritime Power"
On June 21, President Lee Jaemyung appointed Nam Jaeheon, currently the head of the Arctic Route Promotion Headquarters at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Kang Yujeong, Chief Presidential Spokesperson, announced the personnel appointment in a written briefing on the same day.
The newly appointed Vice Minister Nam is a graduate of Guduk High School in Busan and the Department of Civil Engineering at Yonsei University. He passed the 34th National Technical Examination and has established himself as a leading port and logistics expert within the ministry, having served as Director of Port Policy, Head of the Busan North Port Integrated Development Task Force, Director of the Masan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, and Director-General for Ports. Most recently, he served as the inaugural head of the Arctic Route Promotion Headquarters, leading the enactment of the Special Act on the Arctic Route and policies to establish the maritime capital region.

Spokesperson Kang described Vice Minister Nam as “a representative port expert and a seasoned bureaucrat with both strong work execution and problem-solving skills.” She explained that he was selected as “the right person to lead the era of the Arctic route and support Korea’s leap toward becoming a global maritime powerhouse through the completion of the maritime capital, based on his high level of expertise in the maritime and fisheries sector.”
