Four Gyeongju Beaches Open July 10... "On Alert to Prevent Jellyfish Stings"
Twenty Beaches in Pohang, Yeongdeok, and Uljin to Open
North Gyeongsang Province Holds Safety Management Meeting
On June 19, North Gyeongsang Province held a summer beach safety management meeting at the Eastern Government Complex in Pohang, with officials from four coastal cities and counties, the fire department headquarters, the Institute of Health and Environment, the maritime police, and other relevant agencies in attendance.
During the meeting, North Gyeongsang Province reviewed preparations for the opening of beaches, including facility inspections, securing safety equipment, and deploying safety personnel. The province also discussed building a cooperative system with relevant agencies, such as the fire department headquarters and the Pohang and Uljin Maritime Police Stations, to prevent safety accidents.
In addition, North Gyeongsang Province plans to conduct joint inspections with related organizations before the opening of the beaches, checking on the readiness of convenience and safety facilities, as well as the installation of jellyfish prevention nets, to ensure the safety of beachgoers.
Beaches along the East Coast of North Gyeongsang Province will open in sequence: four beaches in Gyeongju will open on July 10, followed by eight beaches in Pohang, seven in Yeongdeok, and five in Uljin. The remaining 20 beaches will open from July 11 and remain in operation for 38 to 44 days until August 23.
In particular, to prevent jellyfish stings and damage caused by the appearance of jellyfish this year, the province has increased the budget compared to last year for measures such as installing jellyfish-blocking nets and expanding personnel for removal. The province is making a concerted effort to minimize related damages.
North Gyeongsang Province also plans to offer a variety of marine leisure activities and regional festivals that go beyond simple swimming, maximizing the appeal of the clean East Coast. These efforts are intended to create unforgettable memories for visitors this summer. The province will also improve user convenience, such as maintaining the sand beaches, while simultaneously implementing measures to prevent price gouging.

Moon Sungjun, Director of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for North Gyeongsang Province, said, "The most important aspect of managing beaches is the safety of visitors. This year, as there are more diverse risk factors such as early heat waves and the appearance of harmful marine organisms, we will establish a thorough cooperative system with local coastal cities and counties, maritime police, fire departments, and other related agencies to prevent any loss of life."
