Public Officials Federation Delivers Key Issues on Treatment Improvement to People Power Party Floor Leadership

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Public Officials Labor Union Federation (Public Officials Federation) announced on the 21st that it held a policy meeting with the floor leadership of the People Power Party and delivered key tasks for improving the treatment of public officials and reforming related systems.
The Public Officials Federation held a policy meeting with the floor leadership of the People Power Party, including Floor Leader Jeong Jeomsik, at its office in Yeouido, Seoul, on June 19, and delivered the "Public Officials Federation Policy Proposal."

View original imageThis meeting was specially arranged to listen to opinions on issues concerning the public sector, in connection with the People Power Party floor leadership's scheduled visit to the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. Attendees included Floor Leader Jeong Jeomsik, Senior Deputy Floor Leader for Operations Kim Seungsoo, Senior Deputy Floor Leader for Policy Kim Mi-ae, Chief of Staff to the Floor Leader Yoon Yonggeun, and Assemblyman Kim Hyungdong.
Through the proposal, the Public Officials Federation presented as major tasks: ▲ Realistic adjustment of public officials' remuneration and legal institutionalization of the Remuneration Committee ▲ Abolition of the rule reducing one salary step upon promotion ▲ Normalization of retirement allowances ▲ Changes in the union establishment units at ministries, agencies, and offices ▲ Extension of the retirement age to 65 and elimination of income gaps ▲ Guarantee of basic political rights for public officials.
Shin Donggeun, Chairman of the Public Officials Federation, emphasized, "Improving employment conditions and systems is urgently needed to stabilize the public sector and strengthen national administrative capacity," adding, "The National Assembly must play an active role in resolving current issues such as increased election work burden, the departure of less-experienced public officials, and declining attractiveness of public service careers."
He continued, "Policy solutions should be sought in the field," and requested, "We ask that the People Power Party leadership visit workplaces more frequently to communicate directly and ensure that voices from the field are reflected in legislation and state administration."
In response, the People Power Party's floor leadership expressed its understanding of the difficulties facing the public sector and stated that it would continue to review and discuss the policy tasks delivered.

The Public Officials Federation stated, "With this policy meeting as a starting point, we will continue our efforts to improve the rights and interests of public officials and teachers, as well as to advance institutional reforms that will enable us to provide better administrative services to the public."
