Citizens Step In to Protect Them from Intoxicated Individual... Even Offer an Apology
The story of citizens who helped a Taiwanese couple threatened by an intoxicated individual at Gangnam Station on the Seoul subway is attracting attention online. The couple expressed their gratitude publicly, saying they wish to find these people.
On June 20, a post titled "Looking for the two Koreans who helped us at Gangnam Station" was uploaded on social networking services (SNS). The author introduced themselves as a Taiwanese national who uses a wheelchair and shared the experience they had while traveling in Korea with their spouse.
According to the post, the incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on June 19 on the platform at Gangnam Station on Seoul Subway Line 2, in the direction of Gyodae Station. While the couple was waiting for the train, an intoxicated individual approached them, shouting loudly and behaving in a threatening manner right up close.
The couple, frightened, tried to move the wheelchair backward, but the intoxicated person continued to approach. At that moment, a young man in a white top who was at the scene stepped forward and used his umbrella to block the intoxicated individual, standing between him and the couple.
After boarding the train, the couple faced another crisis. The intoxicated individual boarded the same train and followed them, continuing his threatening words and actions in front of them.
However, once again, citizens came to their aid. The same man who initially protected the couple reappeared, joined by another man in a yellow top, who together blocked the intoxicated individual. Using their umbrellas to create a barrier, the two men protected the couple and kept the individual at bay. Eventually, after the police were notified, the intoxicated person was made to leave the train.
