Songpa District Women's Football Team Wins Again, Achieving Seventh Consecutive Championship

Songpa District announced on the 21st that the Songpa Women's Football Team, operated by the Songpa District Office in Seoul, had won the 23rd National Women's Football Tournament hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. With this victory, the team has set a record by claiming the championship for seven consecutive tournaments since the 17th edition.

View original imageThe tournament, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is a major national competition for women's football teams. This year's event was held in Inje, Gangwon Province, on June 13 and 14. The Songpa Women's Football Team clinched the title by defeating the Gangdong Women's Football Team 3-1 in the final. Player Kim Eunsoo was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Coach Kim Duseon received the Best Coach award.
The Songpa Women's Football Team consists of a total of 39 members, including 36 players of various ages ranging from their 20s to their 60s, as well as coaching staff. The team is made up of local residents from diverse professional backgrounds, such as homemakers, office workers, teachers, self-employed individuals, civil servants, and police officers.
Founded in 1998, the team has been active for 28 years and has achieved 63 championships and 22 runner-up finishes to date. Team captain Joo Eunjeong, age 56, is a founding member and continues to play as an active athlete.
Coach Kim Duseon attributed the team's success to consistent focus on fundamental skills and physical fitness training. The squad trains three times a week, two hours per session, with an emphasis on building physical strength. The Songpa Women's Football Team is scheduled to participate in major upcoming competitions this year, including the President's Cup, the Seoul Citizen League, and the Seoul Champions Tournament.

Songpa District Mayor Seo Gangseok stated, "This is a team that has continued from a time when it was difficult for women to play football as a recreational sport," adding, "We will continue to support a variety of recreational sports activities so that residents can enjoy a healthy daily life."
