The city was selected for the "Gyeonggi RE100 Pilot Project" for three consecutive years: in 2024 for the "Virtual Net Metering Convergence Project for Citizen-led Solar Power Plant Construction and Achieving RE100," in 2025 for the "RE100 Achievement and Semiconductor Ecosystem Support Project Based on Landscape-Improvement Type Renewable Energy," and again this year.
This year’s selected project, the "Citizen Solar Fund Park," involves building solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,000 kW on the parking lots and sports facilities of four public facilities, including a neighborhood park in Yangji-eup, Cheoin-gu. Of the total project budget of 2,292 million won, the city will receive 687.6 million won from provincial funds. The remaining 1,146 million won will be covered by the local community group, the Yangji-eup Development Council.
This project has been highly evaluated as the nation's first "governance innovation model" that combines a village community (Yangji-eup Development Council) and local finance (Yangji Credit Union). The electricity generated will be supplied directly to local companies to help them achieve RE100, and the profits from power generation will be distributed to residents, establishing a virtuous cycle that contributes to revitalizing the local economy.
The city expects that, in addition to providing "climate-safe shade" to protect citizens from heat waves and heavy rain, the project will lay the foundation for the self-reliance of rural communities.
A Yongin City official stated, "Being selected for this project goes beyond simply producing eco-friendly energy and will become a complete model where public institutions, citizens, and local finance work together to proactively respond to the climate crisis," and added, "Starting with Yangji-eup in Cheoin-gu, we will spare no administrative support to ensure that a citizen-participatory RE100 ecosystem is established throughout Yongin."
Yongin City Selected as an Outstanding Institution in Gyeonggi Province’s Comprehensive City and County Evaluation... S Grade in 106 out of 109 Indicators
Meanwhile, Yongin City has also achieved the distinction of being selected as an outstanding institution in the "2025 Gyeonggi-do City and County Comprehensive Evaluation," which measures overall administrative competitiveness. With this recognition, the city will receive an institutional commendation and a financial incentive of 100 million won.
The city was evaluated in Group 1, which includes larger cities such as Suwon, Seongnam, and Hwaseong, and achieved the top "S Grade" in an impressive 106 out of 109 indicators. The city’s balanced achievements across all administrative sectors—including the livelihood economy, welfare, and safety—were cited as key to this success.
This is interpreted as the result of breaking down barriers between departments and prioritizing strategic administration focused on policies that citizens can truly feel.
