Notably, Suji Nonghyup contributed 10 million won in scholarships, asking for support to help local students grow into core talents for both Korea and Yongin, adding significance to the occasion.
This year, a total of 913 individuals were selected, including 832 scholarship recipients across 12 categories—Azalea, Advancement, Excellence, Skills, Filial Piety, Independence, Local, Rainbow, Gomduri, Patriots and Veterans, Housing Support, and Dream Scholarships—and 81 recipients of educational support for talent development. The foundation plans to provide a total of 701.69 million won in scholarships and educational support to these students.
In his congratulatory speech, Mayor Lee stated, "The Yongin Scholarship Foundation, which started in 2001 with a capital of 2.9 billion won, has grown to a scale of 25.6 billion won thanks to the support of citizens. So far, more than 16,700 students have become outstanding contributors to society through these scholarships."
He continued, "With the implementation of a large-scale semiconductor project, Yongin Special City is expected to see a significant increase in tax revenue and the creation of high-quality jobs thanks to the boom in the semiconductor industry. I will work to create an environment where the students here can find jobs in Yongin and help develop the city. If we can expand the scholarship fund to 30 billion won, I believe more students will benefit, so as mayor, I will take the lead in helping the scholarship foundation advance further."
