One of Two Female Students in Cardiac Arrest at Seosan Haemicheon Dies, One Recovering (Comprehensive)

Regarding the incident where two middle school students fell into the water at Haemicheon in Haemi-myeon, Seosan-si, South Chungcheong Province, one of the students died while being transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest.
According to the fire authorities on the 19th, a report was received at around 5:16 p.m. that two female students had fallen into the water.
After receiving a report from a citizen that “middle school students have fallen and are sinking under the Josan Bridge at Haemicheon,” the fire authorities arrived at the scene within four minutes and rescued Miss A (13) and Miss B (13) from the water, both of whom were in cardiac arrest.
The authorities performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene and transported Miss A and Miss B to Seosan Medical Center and Seosan Central Hospital, respectively. However, Miss A died.
A police official stated that Miss B, who was unconscious, showed improvement at around 6:26 p.m. and is currently able to breathe on her own.
The two students are friends, both first-year students at a nearby middle school, and it is reported that they left school together on the day of the accident. According to rescue authorities, the water depth near the point where they were found was approximately 1.5 to 2 meters. It is also understood that “drizzle” was falling at the scene at the time of the report.
