Crackdown on Red Light Violations and Drunk Driving
The Jeonnam Provincial Police are deploying undercover patrol teams and launching a large-scale crackdown on traffic law violations in rural areas to reduce the number of fatal traffic accidents.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency and the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee announced on June 19 that, following a series of fatal accidents caused by failure to wear seat belts and helmets, they will conduct an intensive crackdown on traffic law violations for eight weeks, from June 22 to August 7, centered around undercover patrol teams.
This crackdown will focus on areas where fatal traffic accidents have occurred and at major intersections near large-scale regional festivals. In addition to the undercover patrol teams, all available personnel, including traffic police and officers from local police stations and substations, will be mobilized to strengthen on-site enforcement.
The primary targets of the crackdown are truck drivers not wearing seat belts and motorcycle riders not wearing helmets. Additionally, violations likely to lead to serious accidents—such as running red lights, crossing the center line, drunk driving, and driving without a license—will also be closely monitored.
Before the crackdown, the Jeonnam Provincial Police plan to install banners in areas with frequent accidents and near sites of fatal incidents to inform the public about the intensive enforcement campaign and to raise traffic safety awareness.
