Analysis of 931 KCI Papers and 32 Professional Books

The Korea Institute of Design Promotion announced on the 19th that it has published a design dictionary that systematizes key terms and concepts in the fields of service design and user experience design (UX).

This study was conducted to establish a foundation for the joint use of consistent definitions and scopes of professional terminology commonly used in the service and experience design fields across education, practical work, and research.

The research was led by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion and carried out by the XID Lab of Hongik University. The research team analyzed key keywords and topics from 32 refined and selected monographs out of 4,029 collected, as well as 931 KCI-listed academic papers. They selected 227 main entries, reviewed the academic and practical usage contexts of each term, and compiled the design dictionary, with verification by the Korea Society of Design Science.

Starting from the end of July, the Korea Institute of Design Promotion plans to provide a searchable service related to this on DesignDB. The design dictionary is also expected to be integrated and utilized in the development of educational content, practical guides, and casebooks by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion in the future.

Yoonjoo Kang, President of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, stated, "We hope this research will serve as a focal point connecting design education, practice, and research, and become the most trusted knowledge base in the design field in the forthcoming AI environment."
