Down 4,000 From Previous Week, Exceeding Forecasts
The number of new unemployment benefit claims in the United States decreased last week.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of new unemployment benefit claims for the week of June 7 to June 13 was recorded at 226,000, as announced on June 18 (local time). This figure represents a decrease of 4,000 compared to the previous week and is 1,000 higher than the expert forecast of 225,000 compiled by Dow Jones.

However, the number of continued unemployment benefit claims—those filed by individuals receiving benefits for two weeks or more—reached 1.81 million for the week of May 31 to June 6, an increase of 24,000 from the previous week.
