Seoul Asan Medical Center Ranks First in Five Specialties: Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Neurology, Endocrinology, and Orthopedics
Ranked First in the Most Categories in the Asia-Pacific by Newsweek Survey
On June 18, the American weekly news magazine Newsweek announced its '2026 Asia-Pacific Best Hospitals by Clinical Specialty' rankings, with Seoul Asan Medical Center securing the number one position in five clinical specialties: cardiology and cardiac surgery, neurology, endocrinology, and orthopedics. Among hospitals from 11 Asia-Pacific countries included in the evaluation, Seoul Asan Medical Center achieved the highest number of first-place rankings.
Seoul Asan Medical Center surpassed hospitals in advanced countries such as Japan, Australia, and Singapore to claim the top spot in these five categories, affirming its reputation as the leading medical institution in the Asia-Pacific region.
Seoul Asan Medical Center also achieved high rankings in other specialties, placing second in oncology, pulmonology, and gastroenterology, fifth in pediatrics, and twelfth in neurosurgery. In total, the hospital ranked within the top five in nine specialties.
From February of this year, Newsweek, in collaboration with the global research firm Statista, conducted an online survey over the course of a month. The survey targeted more than 8,000 healthcare professionals across 11 countries, including Korea, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, to identify the best hospitals in 10 clinical specialties. The final results, published on Newsweek's website, comprehensively reflect national healthcare performance indicators, patient satisfaction evaluations, and the implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).
This year, the Cardiology Hospital at Seoul Asan Medical Center again secured the number one ranking in the Asia-Pacific, maintaining its top position for the fourth consecutive year since Newsweek began its Asia-Pacific hospital evaluations.
The Cardiology Hospital at Seoul Asan Medical Center treats an average of 200,000 outpatients and 60,000 inpatients annually. It is recognized as the world’s leading research institution in stent procedures for cardiovascular diseases such as angina and myocardial infarction, demonstrating global authority in interventional cardiology. The hospital also set an Asian record last year by performing 2,500 cases of percutaneous aortic valve stent procedures, a minimally invasive treatment for aortic valve stenosis, making it the first and most prolific medical institution in Asia for this treatment.
As a result, approximately 20,000 foreign patients from around 100 countries visit Seoul Asan Medical Center each year for the treatment of severe diseases such as heart disease and cancer. In addition to patients, more than 500 international medical professionals from around 60 countries visit annually to learn advanced medical techniques at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Seoul Asan Medical Center was also ranked within the global top ten in six clinical specialties in the '2026 World's Best Hospitals by Clinical Specialty' assessment, which included hospitals worldwide, not just those in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the only hospital in Korea to have six specialties ranked in the global top ten.
