The Anthropic Seoul office will serve as a key hub to support domestic customers and partners, fostering close collaboration with Korea’s AI ecosystem. CEO Choi stated, "We recognize that technological innovation and safety are not conflicting values but goals that must be pursued together," adding, "The opening of the Seoul office lays a long-term foundation for collaboration with those leading Korea’s AI leadership."
In fact, Korea is one of the most important markets for Anthropic. According to the Anthropic Economic Index Report, Korea ranks 12th out of 166 countries worldwide in per capita Claude usage. Chris Chawli, Global Head of Anthropic, commented, "Korea is one of the fastest-growing markets for Anthropic globally and could rise into the single-digit ranks," adding, "With its strong foundation, Korea will demonstrate top-tier growth rates."

During the press conference, examples were shared of how companies such as Naver, Nexon, LG CNS, and Hanwha Solutions are increasing development productivity through Claude. Anthropic also plans to support core AI research areas in cooperation with the National AI Research Hub, a consortium consisting of KAIST, Korea University, Yonsei University, and POSTECH. Anthropic offers Claude free of charge to researchers within this consortium.
Anthropic has set supporting Korean companies’ AI transformation (AX) as its top priority, and will focus on building relevant teams and strengthening the partner ecosystem. Chawli said, "This is a limited case and I believe the issue will be resolved soon," adding, "It does not seem that the export control guidelines will have a long-lasting effect on vendor risk assessments or the adoption of Claude by client companies."
