SK hynix, which is leading the global artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor market, is completely eliminating the 'academic background restrictions' that have long served as a barrier to entry in its new employee recruitment process. The company has declared that it will fundamentally change the recruitment paradigm so that anyone with real job competencies and growth potential, rather than fixed credentials or educational backgrounds, can become a key player in Korea's cutting-edge semiconductor industry.
SK hynix announced that, starting from the rolling recruitment of new employees that begins on June 17, it will fully abolish academic qualifications as a requirement in order to secure future talent who will lead the era of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
With this measure, academic qualification requirements such as "only those with a four-year university degree or higher may apply," which had previously been mandatory in recruitment notices, are now a thing of the past. The recruitment system has been completely revamped so that anyone—regardless of educational background, whether a high school or junior college graduate—can apply and be accepted on equal footing, as long as their hands-on experience and job performance capabilities match, and they are suited to SK Group's corporate culture.
This bold experiment by SK hynix aligns with the so-called "three core muscles" theory of future talent for the AI era, a concept that SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has recently emphasized.
Chairman Chey has identified the key competencies that future talent should possess as follows: the "thinking muscle" to ask questions on their own and delve deeply into the essence of issues; the "adaptation muscle" to respond agilely to rapidly changing technology trends; and the "empathy muscle" to embrace diversity and foster flexible collaboration.
An SK hynix official explained, "In the rapidly evolving AI environment, the competitiveness of future talent cannot be fully described by specific degrees or fixed credentials," adding, "We have reformed our recruitment standards to identify individuals who can creatively solve complex problems."
By breaking down barriers related to educational background, SK hynix has opened its doors wider than ever before. Through this rolling recruitment, the company plans to hire, on an unprecedented three-digit scale, a large number of new employees in major roles—including 'design,' which is core to next-generation AI semiconductor technology.
The strategy is to actively contribute to expanding youth employment by securing a large pool of new hires with limitless potential instead of simply relying on prestigious backgrounds, while also building a comprehensive defense line to maintain a unique technological lead in the global AI semiconductor arena through systematic, customized training programs after joining the company.
SK hynix emphasized, "By recruiting a large number of new employees with potential, we will contribute to expanding youth employment, while also developing their capabilities so they can fully realize their potential, thereby continuously strengthening our unrivaled technological competitiveness in the global AI market."
