Algenomics to Attend "BIO USA" to Pursue RNA Editing Platform Partnerships
Algenomics, a company specializing in the development of ribonucleic acid (RNA)-based gene therapies, announced on June 17 that it will participate in "BIO USA 2026," which will be held in San Diego, United States, from June 22 to 25, to discuss partnership opportunities with global pharmaceutical companies.
BIO USA is a global business partnering event where pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals from around the world gather to discuss technology collaborations, joint research, and licensing opportunities. Algenomics will participate through the Korea Pavilion, which is jointly organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization. The company plans to actively promote its proprietary RNA editing and correction platform, as well as its next-generation circular RNA platform technology, to the global market.
Algenomics is pursuing both joint research and pipeline technology transfer based on its RNA platform. In particular, building on the latest research results presented orally at major global academic conferences such as the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT), and the Asian Society for Neuro-Oncology (ASNO), the company plans to actively engage in one-on-one business meetings with global pharmaceutical companies to discuss commercialization opportunities.
The main focus of the business development meetings will be on "pipeline deals" related to Algenomics' ongoing pipelines, as well as "platform deals" similar to the technology transfer agreement signed with Eli Lilly last year.
The targets for pipeline deals include "Tasfitimazen Advec (RZ-001)," an anti-cancer gene therapy that was recently designated as a Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) by the U.S. FDA. Based on the early efficacy and safety data obtained from phase 1b/2a clinical trials for hepatocellular carcinoma and phase 1/2a trials for glioblastoma, Algenomics aims to pursue global joint development and licensing discussions.
Additionally, discussions are ongoing with multiple global big pharma companies regarding RZ-003, an Alzheimer's disease therapy, and RZ-004, a therapy for inherited retinal diseases—both of which are currently undergoing validation after the signing of material transfer agreements (MTAs) with major global pharmaceutical companies. RZ-005, a candidate therapy for Rett syndrome, is still in the discovery phase, yet meetings are scheduled with several interested companies.
For "platform deals," Algenomics will engage in discussions based on its in-house target gene database, reflecting the diverse areas of interest of global big pharma companies. The company also plans to discuss new therapeutic development strategies using its next-generation circular RNA platform, as well as potential platform collaboration opportunities.
