Chips&Media Signs License Agreement for 'Next-Generation Multimedia IP' with U.S. Big Tech Company
Chips&Media has signed a license agreement with a major U.S. big tech company (large information technology enterprise) for its next-generation high-efficiency multimedia IP, 'AV2 (AOMedia Video 2)'.
According to Chips&Media on June 17, the license covers not only AV2 but also multi-standard IPs such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. With this agreement, Chips&Media has further solidified its market dominance as a central player in the global video standard competition.
The AV2 IP is expected to be adopted in customers' flagship devices, delivering a differentiated user experience in ultra-high-resolution environments. The next-generation AV2 standard offers approximately 20–30% improved compression efficiency compared to AV1, allowing video of the same quality to be transmitted with less bandwidth. Chips&Media has efficiently implemented the newly introduced, complex coding tools of AV2 in its hardware architecture, enabling virtually lossless, ultra-high-definition video while reducing the data transmission burden.
Chips&Media's 'WAVE' series is designed for industry-leading low power consumption and ultra-compact form factors. Even in 8K@60fps and 4K@240fps environments, it minimizes hardware footprint, enhancing customers' SoC design flexibility, and achieves significant power savings through algorithm optimization. This enables stable high-resolution video processing even in mobile and on-device environments sensitive to heat, and, beyond maximizing single-core performance, supports custom configurations based on multi-core architecture—providing wide scalability from high-performance smartphones to professional video equipment.
