(CEO Taewoo Lee, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University) announced on June 13 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the “Commercialization and Joint R&D of Core Components and Materials for Next-Generation Displays and Solar Cells.” The agreement aims to secure technological competitiveness in the future advanced materials market and establish a foundation for commercialization by combining the core technologies and production infrastructures of both companies.
Graphene Square is a specialized graphene materials company that has established a large-area CVD (chemical vapor deposition) graphene mass production plant. CEO Byunghee Hong is recognized as a global authority in graphene synthesis and applications, and has been a leader in the industrialization of graphene research.
SND Display possesses original technology in the field of perovskite, which is attracting attention as a next-generation material for displays and solar cells. CEO Taewoo Lee is a world-renowned expert in perovskite materials research, leading outstanding achievements in optoelectronic materials and next-generation display technologies. In particular, this year he has demonstrated technological competitiveness by publishing a series of research results in the world's top scientific journals, including four papers in Nature and Science related to display research.
This agreement was pursued to combine SND Display’s proprietary perovskite technology with Graphene Square’s materials manufacturing technology and production infrastructure, in order to lay the groundwork for the commercialization of core materials and components for next-generation displays and solar cells, and to expand joint research and development collaboration.
Through the agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate in various areas, including ▲technology and product development, ▲production processes and manufacturing infrastructure, ▲prototype production, and ▲joint research and development. SND Display’s core technology will be integrated with Graphene Square’s processing capabilities to establish a commercialization system, while both companies will actively leverage their own manufacturing equipment and evaluation infrastructure to enhance technology validation and product completeness.
Additionally, the companies plan to continue expanding technical exchanges to improve performance and advance quality through joint research in key materials areas such as particles, resin, thin films, and film.
As silicon-based conventional solar cells and the current OLED market have entered a stage of technological maturity, the successful commercialization of integrated graphene and perovskite technology is expected to further solidify Korea’s global leadership in the future core components and materials market.
Byunghee Hong, CEO of Graphene Square, said, “Graphene and perovskite are each key materials driving innovation in next-generation electrodes, encapsulation, emission, and energy conversion materials. By combining our technological strengths, we will enhance competitiveness in display and solar cell materials and contribute to the development of the relevant industrial ecosystem.”
Taewoo Lee, CEO of SND Display, stated, “We expect that we will be able to implement our proprietary materials technology more effectively through Graphene Square’s manufacturing technology and production infrastructure. We will actively pursue the commercialization of next-generation materials and components.”
