HLB Genex Recruits Vice President So-Young Kim, Key Driver of CJ Bio’s Growth
HLB Genex announced on June 16 that it has recruited Dr. So-Young Kim, a key figure behind the growth of CJ Bio, as its new Vice President.
Vice President Kim is an expert who led both bio research and development (R&D) and commercialization at CJ CheilJedang for more than 20 years. With her proven research and development capabilities in the global green bio market and experience in managing large-scale businesses, she is regarded as the ideal candidate to lead new business initiatives and enhance corporate value at HLB Genex.
Vice President Kim began her career as a researcher at the CJ CheilJedang Bio Research Center, and held key positions such as heading amino acid research, leading bio R&D, and serving as Head of the Animal Nutrition (AN) Business Division. Her R&D competitiveness and outstanding business achievements led to her appointment as the first female inside director at CJ CheilJedang. She also contributed to the highest-ever quarterly operating profit in the bio division during the second quarter of 2021 while leading the animal nutrition business. In particular, she played a pivotal role in both operations and overall management as CJ CheilJedang solidified its position as the global number one in the amino acid market, including lysine and tryptophan, thereby strengthening its competitiveness.
Currently, HLB Genex supplies industrial enzymes used in semiconductor processes and has established a business foundation expected to benefit from the recovery in the semiconductor industry. In addition, the company is expanding its business scope into the development of high-value-added protein and peptide materials leveraging synthetic biology and precision fermentation technologies, while targeting the medical food, personalized nutrition, and anti-aging biosolution markets.
The company expects that Vice President Kim’s commercialization expertise and scaling up capabilities, proven in global bio businesses, will play a crucial role in advancing HLB Genex’s healthcare materials solutions and securing new growth engines.
