Accepting 'Citizen Policy Proposals'... Citizen-Led Governance Begins
Kim Wonki: "Municipal Administration Starts with the Voices of Citizens"
The Citizen Sovereignty Transition Committee of Kim Wonki, the mayor-elect of Uijeongbu in the 9th popularly elected administration, has started accepting 'Citizen Policy Proposals' in order to actively incorporate a wide range of public opinions into municipal governance, thereby taking a major step toward realizing citizen-led administration.
The Citizen Sovereignty Transition Committee, chaired by Lee Jaejun, announced on the 15th that it would broadly solicit citizens’ suggestions regarding daily inconveniences, policy improvement ideas, and proposals for new projects aimed at regional development in order to realize “Uijeongbu where citizens are the true owners.”
This call for citizen policy proposals is the first step in designing the direction and key tasks of the 9th Uijeongbu municipal administration together with the public. The committee has opened participation channels so that citizens can freely submit suggestions ranging from everyday issues they experience to long-term policy ideas for the city's development.
The submitted proposals will be reviewed by each subcommittee—such as Transport·Construction·Safety, Economy·Administration·Environment, and Culture·Welfare·Education—together with experts. The transition committee plans to actively reflect the proposals in the key policy agenda of the 9th administration after comprehensively analyzing feasibility, urgency, public interest, policy impact, and required budget, all within the scope of relevant regulations and available municipal funds.
Kim Wonki, the mayor-elect of Uijeongbu, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I deeply thank all the respected citizens of Uijeongbu,” and added, “The 9th Uijeongbu administration will start with nothing but the voices of its citizens.”
He continued, “In this era of citizen sovereignty, we will cherish even the smallest inconveniences or simple ideas from daily life to make Uijeongbu a city where citizens are truly happy,” and encouraged citizens to participate actively.
Any Uijeongbu citizen can participate in submitting policy proposals. Details on how to submit and further information are available on the official Uijeongbu City website, the mayor-elect's social media accounts, and local community channels.
The transition committee will not provide individual responses to each proposal, but plans to actively utilize the submissions as key references when reviewing policies for the 9th administration. Additionally, any collected personal information will be safely managed and used only for the purposes of proposal review and additional follow-up.
