This meeting was arranged at the request of Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who visited Korea to attend the "2026 Incheon-Cambodia Investment Roadshow" held in Incheon. Both sides reviewed the implementation status of the Korea-Cambodia FTA and held extensive discussions on major economic cooperation issues, such as expanding investment and trade, ODA, and international greenhouse gas reduction projects.
Director General Yeo noted that since the entry into force of the Korea-Cambodia FTA in 2022 and the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in 2024, trade and investment between the two countries have continued to grow. Bilateral trade volume increased from 966 million dollars in 2021 to 1.163 billion dollars last year, and this year is also recording a level of approximately 1.197 billion dollars.
Director General Yeo also shared the Ministry’s ongoing Official Development Assistance projects for Cambodia. He introduced the “Cambodia Food Processing Sector TASK Center Establishment Project,” which has been underway since 2023, and the “ASEAN Trade Officials Invitation Training Program” scheduled for the second half of this year, expressing a strong commitment to expanding cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol expressed hope that cooperation would continue to expand, stating that Korea’s ODA projects have provided substantial support for Cambodia’s economic development.
