Geochang County, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced on the 15th that it was selected as an excellent institution by ranking second among counties in the joint evaluation of major county tasks for 2026 (2025 performance) conducted by Gyeongsangnam-do.
The joint evaluation of major city and county tasks is an annual assessment conducted by Gyeongsangnam-do for the 18 cities and counties within the province. It divides the evaluation of key national and provincial policy implementation into quantitative and qualitative assessments.
In the quantitative assessment, Geochang County achieved its targets for 97 out of 98 indicators, recording a 100% achievement rate. This is a 6 percentage point increase compared to last year and surpasses the average target achievement rate for counties in the province, which stands at 96.2%.

The selected areas included: ▲Promotion of a sharing culture ▲Carbon-neutral green growth ▲Reduction in the use of disposable products ▲Encouragement of bicycle use ▲Support for pregnancy and childbirth ▲Activation of youth policy participation ▲Provision of forest welfare services ▲Creation of a women-friendly city.
In the provincial consensus evaluation, which involves participation from provincial residents, the case study titled "Neighbors Taking Care of Neighbors: The On Bon Jigi Story" in the area of promoting a sharing culture was chosen as an excellent example.
Based on these evaluation results, Geochang County will receive an award as an excellent institution along with a special adjustment grant of 198 million won.
The county explained that it prepared for the evaluation through analysis of assessment indicators, management of underperforming indicators, monitoring of progress, and expert consulting.
A county official stated, "Going forward, we will continue to faithfully implement major policies and strive to provide administrative services that residents can truly experience."
The joint evaluation of major city and county tasks is a system that compares and assesses the policy performance of local governments according to established criteria. While being selected as an excellent institution is meaningful in itself, it is even more important that the results of the evaluation lead to actual improvements in administrative services and resident satisfaction.
