Busan Veterans Affairs Office Holds Memorial Rite for Patriotic Spirits in Hwamyeong-dong
Over 150 Participants Gather to Honor the Spirit of Sacrifice
An event was held at Hyunchung Neighborhood Park in Hwamyeong-dong, Buk-gu, Busan, to honor the noble sacrifices of the patriotic spirits who gave their lives for the nation and to offer comfort to the families of veterans.
The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs under the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Director Namil Lee) announced that on the morning of June 12, the 28th Jinyeo Memorial Rite for Patriotic Spirits and Comfort Event for Veterans' Families was held at the Patriotic Memorial Tower within Hyunchung Neighborhood Park in Hwamyeong-dong, organized by Jinyeowon of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.
Approximately 150 participants, including Namil Lee, Director of the Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs, officials from Busan City and Buk-gu, local dignitaries, Jinyeowon followers, and bereaved families, attended the ceremony to honor the spirits of the patriotic heroes and share their gratitude.
The memorial rite was solemnly conducted, beginning with a ceremony to pray for rebirth in paradise, followed by the recitation of a dedicatory poem, the six offerings ritual, floral tribute, national ritual, singing of the national anthem, and a moment of silent tribute for the patriotic spirits. The event also featured the presentation of plaques and scholarships, a memorial address, and a commemorative photo session, providing an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of remembrance and sharing.
The Patriotic Spirit Memorial Monument, located in Hyunchung Neighborhood Park in Hwamyeong-dong, was erected on July 29, 2002, to pass down the spirit of sacrifice of the forefathers to future generations. This was accomplished by forming a promotion committee with the cooperation of local institutions, bereaved families of fallen soldiers, residents, and Jinyeowon of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The memorial tablets of the patriotic spirits are currently enshrined at Jinyeowon, where annual memorial rites continue the tradition of remembrance.
