Yang Hyangja Proposes Mass Resignation of People Power Party Leadership, Citing Election Defeat Responsibility
"Leadership Must Take Responsibility for Election Results"
Open Call for Resignation at Supreme Council Meeting
Jang: "Now Is the Time to Focus on Election Commission Crisis"... Dismisses Leadership Dispute
Yang Hyangja, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, publicly proposed the mass resignation of the party leadership on June 15 in response to the results of the June 3 local elections, stating, "The role of the leadership is to take responsibility for the results."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Yang said, "Politics ultimately comes down to responsibility, and a leader is someone who takes responsibility. I propose the mass resignation of the leadership. I believe that is the reasonable path that reflects the will of the people."

She continued, "Don't you think the public now sees our party leadership as people who avoid responsibility and cling to their positions? I cannot think of any other way to take responsibility than the mass resignation of the leadership."
She further argued, "I do not see any philosophy, vision, or direction that will lead the future of South Korea and the conservative party. We must quickly step aside so that the next leadership can guide the party."
Regarding the shortage of ballot papers, she said, "As a citizen, I am outraged to see the National Election Commission, which is one of the most important national systems in South Korea, collapsing."
However, she added, "The People Power Party is the only viable alternative force to correct the infringement of citizens' suffrage caused by the National Election Commission. The public's trust that this current leadership will not use this crisis for political advantage is the reason why our party has the capability to take the lead in resolving this issue."

In response, Party Representative Jang said, "Now is the time to focus on uncovering the truth behind the ballot paper shortage and pushing for a special investigation, rather than debating the leadership's future. Who would fill the void and take responsibility for this issue if the entire leadership were to resign?" He further urged party members to refrain from internal disputes over the leadership, saying, "There is a proper order and pace to everything."
