Sharing Strategies for Regional Development Including Innovation City Revitalization and National Garden Designation
Seeking Joint Solutions from Public Institution Relocation to Regional Waste Management
On June 14, Jinju City Mayor Kyu-il Jo announced that he met with Gyeongnam Province Governor Wansu Park at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government Office to request support and cooperation on major projects and current issues facing Jinju City.
According to Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province, the meeting was arranged to share key local issues and to discuss cooperation measures with Gyeongsangnam-do.
Mayor Jo conveyed his position that, if the second relocation of public institutions from the Seoul metropolitan area is pursued, the relocation should focus on the existing Jinju Innovation City.
He also explained the necessity of attracting the integrated headquarters of the five power generation public enterprises, currently being discussed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, to Jinju Innovation City, and requested the support of Gyeongnam Province.
In addition, he called for Gyeongnam Province's attention and cooperation regarding the promotion of "Wolasan Forest of Jinju," which was designated as a local garden in Gyeongsangnam-do this past April, to be recognized as a national garden.
He went on to explain the current status and key issues surrounding the Sa-Cheon–Jinju regional waste incineration facility project, which has recently emerged as a local issue, and presented Jinju City's position on the matter.
Mayor Jo stated that Jinju City intends to seek solutions through consultations with Sacheon City and requested mediation and cooperation from Gyeongsangnam-do.
He also mentioned the need to establish a joint economic zone and promote mutually beneficial cooperation between Jinju and Sacheon, stating his intention to continue discussions on shared issues such as the development of the aerospace industry, construction of the National Road No. 33 bypass, and establishment of a regional waste treatment facility.
The second relocation of public institutions from the Seoul metropolitan area, the attraction of the integrated headquarters of power generation public enterprises, and the establishment of a regional waste treatment facility are all issues directly tied not only to the future of Jinju but also to western Gyeongnam Province as a whole.
