Justin Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada (age 54), watched the United States national soccer team’s 2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup match, choosing to support his American pop star girlfriend Katy Perry (age 41) over his home country's team.
According to the New York Times (NYT), on the night of the 12th (local time), former Prime Minister Trudeau attended the United States vs. Paraguay match held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California (referred to as Los Angeles Stadium during the World Cup).
On this day, both Canada and the United States played their opening World Cup matches. However, Trudeau chose to attend the United States match rather than the Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina game held in Toronto. The reason was that his girlfriend, Perry, performed at the opening ceremony before the United States vs. Paraguay match.
