Yongsan-gu Conducts Special Safety Inspections at Seven Capsule Lodging Facilities
Strengthening Fire Response Measures, Including Recommendations for Installing Automatic Diffusion Extinguishers
On June 14, Yongsan-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced that it had conducted special safety inspections at seven capsule-type lodging facilities in the district.

View original imageThis inspection was carried out in the wake of Seoul City’s announcement of a comprehensive fire safety plan for small-scale lodging businesses. The inspection focused on several key areas: the presence and validity of fire extinguishers, the operation of standalone alarm detectors, the condition and availability of evacuation and escape facilities such as emergency exits and descent devices, and the maintenance and management status of fire safety facilities.
Capsule-type lodging facilities are particularly vulnerable to fire hazards due to their small spaces, high density, and the frequent lack of legal requirements to install sprinklers under current regulations.
As a result of the inspection, minor issues such as expired fire extinguisher validity were corrected immediately on site, and businesses without sprinklers were recommended to install alternative fire safety equipment such as automatic diffusion extinguishers. The district office also conducted additional inspections up to June 12 to review the overall state of fire safety management.
