Opposition Presses Han Sung-sook Over Illegal Extensions, Multiple Homes... Ruling Party Calls It "Distorted Attacks"

Democratic Party: "Expressed Regret and Took Action"

The Democratic Party countered that Han had taken appropriate action and urged the ruling party to stop what it called smear tactics.
Park Seong-hoon, chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, said, "Han was aware of the illegal extensions on her Jongno-gu building but failed to rectify the issue for a prolonged period. During last year's confirmation hearing for the Minister of SMEs and Startups, she promised to take swift action, but subsequently paid the imposed fines and ignored correction orders, seemingly treating them as a mere financial transaction."
He continued, "It was only after being nominated as Prime Minister that she belatedly proceeded with demolition. This is not the conduct of a responsible public official, but rather a hastily arranged move to appease public scrutiny."
Park also pointed out, "Han owns a total of four homes—three in Seoul and one in Gyeonggi Province—making her a multi-home owner. She recently sold an apartment in Jamsil, pocketing a massive capital gain of nearly 3 billion won."
Kang Jun-hyun, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, commented, "Han has expressed her regret to the public regarding the personal issues raised against her, fully explained the process, and has been taking appropriate actions. We urge an end to these distorted, agenda-driven attacks."
He added, "Although her mother and siblings lived there, Han sold the Jamsil apartment at a price about 400 million won lower than the previous transaction. She is also proceeding to sell homes in Gangnam and Yangpyeong at prices roughly 600 million won and 300 million won lower, respectively."
