Musk: "I Hope SpaceX Can Take You to the Moon, Mars, and Beyond"
Stayed at Headquarters With Employees Instead of NYSE on Listing Day
Elon Musk held a ceremony to commemorate SpaceX’s listing on the Nasdaq, expressing his ambition for the company to become an enterprise that can send anyone who wishes far into space.
According to CNBC and The New York Times on June 12 (local time), Musk gave a speech in front of employees at SpaceX’s Starbase headquarters in Texas, stating, “I hope SpaceX can take you to the Moon, Mars, and ultimately beyond.”
Looking back on the company’s early days, he recalled, “It’s hard to believe that a small company that started in a warehouse in El Segundo, California, is now pulling off the biggest IPO ever,” adding, “I once thought the probability of SpaceX succeeding was less than 10%.”
He continued, “I used to tell people that we would probably fail, but we had to try. Otherwise, we would never become true citizens of space,” and pointed out, “There were other aerospace companies, but they didn’t pursue the technologies that would make ‘Star Trek’ a reality or turn stories from science fiction into fact.”
Musk emphasized, “SpaceX’s goal is to remove fiction from science fiction and create an exhilarating and inspiring future for everyone,” and added, “I hope we can take not just a few astronauts, but anyone who wants to go to the Moon or Mars. With our team, I am confident we can make this happen.”
