A Variety of Events: Friendship Concert, Film Festival, Cooking Classes, and More
The 6th edition of "Ciao! Italia," the flagship international cultural exchange event co-hosted by Chuncheon City and the Embassy of Italy in Korea, opened on June 12, marking the start of a three-day festival.
Chuncheon City held the opening ceremony at the Santorini Outdoor Performance Hall, presenting a variety of programs that allowed citizens to experience Italian culture, art, and cuisine.
Now in its sixth year, "Ciao! Italia" has evolved beyond a simple cultural event, expanding its exchange scope to include the medical and educational sectors, and has established itself as an international cooperation platform between cities.
At the official dinner held prior to the opening ceremony, representatives from Chuncheon City, the Embassy of Italy in Korea, and key domestic and international figures discussed cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, and education, reaffirming their commitment to ongoing exchanges.
The opening ceremony, which began at 7:30 p.m., kicked off with a traditional Korean dance performance, and was hosted by television personality Alberto Mondi and announcer Kim Shia. The event was further enriched by the presence of Ghana’s Ambassador to Korea, officials from the Korea-Africa Foundation, a delegation from Changzhou, China—Chuncheon’s sister city—and Vietnamese fire officials participating in the Global Fire Leadership Program, underscoring the significance of international exchange.
At the Korea-Italy Friendship Concert that followed, Italian and domestic performance teams showcased the music of both countries. In particular, the "Chuncheon Happy Choir," composed of 40 Chuncheon citizens, opened the concert with beautiful harmonies, creating a symbolic scene of citizen-driven international exchange.
Donghan Yuk, Mayor of Chuncheon City, remarked in his welcoming speech, "Ciao! Italia has now become a special connection naturally woven into the seasons of Chuncheon. I hope that, on this path of warm friendship linking culture, education, and people, both cities will continue to deepen their relationship."
On the first day of the festival, exchange programs in the medical and educational fields were held alongside cultural events.
At Kangwon National University Hospital, an international academic conference titled "Healthy Air, Healthy Life (Aria Sana, Vita Sana)" was held, focusing on climate change and children's lung health. Medical professionals from Korea and abroad shared related research and response strategies.
In addition, at Bongui High School, Italian singer-songwriter SHORELLE conducted a composition workshop for students majoring in contemporary music, providing youth with opportunities for international cultural experiences and career exploration.
The festival will continue through June 14 at venues throughout the city, including the World Liquor Market, Chuncheon Agricultural Technology Center, and Chuncheon City Library. Major programs such as cooking classes, wine and cheese classes, and humanities lectures were fully booked during the pre-registration phase, while on-site participation programs including film screenings and the Italian market are also scheduled.
