Ko Jinsoo, Sejong Hotel Union Branch Head, Released on Bail After 'Reinstatement of Dismissed Teacher' Protest Detention
Court Grants Bail After Hearing on June 12
Ko Jinsoo, head of the Sejong Hotel Branch of the Service Federation of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), who was detained and indicted for holding protests demanding the reinstatement of a dismissed teacher, will be released. It has been 56 days since his detention warrant was issued.

View original imageOn June 12, Judge Kim Sugyeong, the presiding judge of Criminal Division 4 at the Seoul Western District Court, held a bail hearing for Ko, who was indicted on charges including obstruction of business, and granted his application for bail, stating, "There is sufficient reason to approve bail."
The conditions for release include attending court at the time and place designated by the court, submitting a written pledge not to destroy evidence, and paying a bail deposit of 30 million won.
Previously, on April 15, Ko held a protest at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, demanding the reinstatement of dismissed teacher Ji Hyebok. He was charged with obstruction of business for allegedly trespassing into the education office building without permission and damaging property, and was referred to trial. Two days later, on April 17, the court issued a detention warrant for Ko, citing concerns that he might flee.

Meanwhile, while in detention, Ko filed a petition for cancellation of his detention with the court on May 7, but the court rejected his request on May 22. After the dismissal, Ko began a hunger strike in his cell at Seoul Southern Detention Center starting from the day the decision was made.
